Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Gulf Coast NeuroSpa offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). TMS is a non-invasive, effective, FDA approved treatment used to treat depression in adults.

How does TMS work?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation uses MRI strength magnetic pulses to safely and effectively stimulate the brain to improve mood and alleviate depression. This stimulation causes the brain to release neurotransmitters in a way that is similar to medication, while avoiding the risk of systemic side effects such as weight gain, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, nausea, or worsened symptoms.

What are treatments like?
Treatments are generally 19 minutes long, three to five times a week, until thirty treatments have been completed. TMS treatments feel like a light tapping on the head. Many patients report experiencing benefits and mood relief after the first one to five treatments.

Will my insurance cover TMS?
Medicare, Tricare, and most private insurances cover TMS. Our dedicated office staff will help to coordinate the process of gaining insurance coverage and authorizations for TMS.
